How to use Flashcard Zoo
tl;dr
Flashcard Zoo is a site that allows you to create vocabulary flashcards, practice those flashcards, and practice verb conjugations (currently in Portuguese and Spanish). This is a personal project, and is free for general use.
Creating Flashcards
To create your own flashcards, do the following:
You must be signed in to create your own flashcards. You can sign in by clicking the "Sign In" button in the upper right corner of the page.
Go to the Flashcards page.
Click the "New Deck" button.
Enter a name for your deck of flashcards, and – optionally – a description.
Choose the two languages you will be using for your flashcards. Note that while flashcards don't have to have words of both languages, the deck definition does need to include two languages.
Click "Create"
Once you have created your flashcard "deck", you can start creating flashcards. Please note the following:
To add multiple words to one "side" of the flashcard, just put the words on different lines.
To add a pronunciation for Japanese or Chinese words, separate the characters and pronunciation with a vertical bar (| or |).
Practicing Flashcards
Once you've created your flashcards, you can practice them by clicking the "Test" button on the deck page, or on your Flashcards page.
Continuous Practice
Every flashcard you practice is put into a list of flashcards that use the Leitner Box method of spaced repetition. At a high level, the idea is that you are more likely to forget vocabulary over time, and that being reminded occasionally (more often for difficult words, less often for easier words) is the most efficient, and effective, method of learning and remembering vocabulary.
To get started, go to the Continuous Practice page and choose the kind of vocabulary you want to practice. If you don't have anything to practice right now, you can add vocabulary manually by clicking the "Add to Continuous Practice" link next to a deck of flashcards.
